Not a Burden

During tonight’s Household, Bro. Randy shared a perspective that really made me pause and reflect—something I had never thought about this way before.

It was about parents who sometimes use their children as a reason for not attending Holy Mass, participating in community activities, or being present in the mission.

And it struck me.

Could it be that, without realizing it, some parents have begun to see their children as a burden to serving God?

Of course, they would never say it outright. But when we repeatedly say, “We cannot attend because the kids are still small,” or “We cannot serve because we have children to look after,” are we unintentionally treating our children as obstacles rather than blessings that are part of our calling?

This reflection opened my eyes to something deeper.

Our children are not a hindrance to our mission. They are part of our mission.

Certainly, raising young children comes with real responsibilities, limitations, and sacrifices. There are times when staying home is necessary, and we should never judge parents who are genuinely doing their best.

But perhaps the more uncomfortable question we need to ask ourselves is this:

Are our children really the reason we cannot serve, or have we sometimes made them the excuse because we ourselves are no longer willing to make the time, effort, and sacrifice?

After all, serving God was never meant to be convenient. And parenthood was never meant to separate us from Him.

Perhaps instead of asking, “How can we serve God when we have children?” we should begin asking, “How can we bring our children along as we serve God?”

Because our children learn faith not only from what we teach them, but also from the faith they see us live.

Let us not unintentionally teach our children that they are the reason we cannot serve God. Instead, let them grow up knowing that they are among the beautiful reasons we continue to serve Him. ❤️🙏

A beautiful and challenging realization from tonight’s Household. Thank you, Bro. Randy, for opening this perspective.

Lord, Jesus – I pray that parents be strong and courageous as they take a step in involving their children in each and every faith building activity for the family. Give them strength and the will to bring their children closer to you. Amen. 🙏🏼
