Special Event Celebrates the Culture and

Perspective of Florida’s estimated 200,000 Deaf

 

This one-day event provides educational events and an opportunity to celebrate Deaf issues, people, and culture.

Largo, FL – “It’s A Deaf Thing,” provides the unique opportunity for Florida’s estimated 200,000 Deaf to gather and celebrate their culture and share their perspectives and increase awareness of Deaf issues.

The 3rd annual event, scheduled for Saturday, October 5 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, FL features products, and services by and for the Deaf Community. Additionally, an art and craft show showcasing various Deaf-made products runs the full day. A talent show at 4:00 PM is the grand finale to a full day celebrating what it means to be Deaf.

It’s a Deaf Thing” is the only known event of its kind across the state of Florida and is expected to feature more than 60 Deaf-owned and Deaf-focused businesses, and to celebrate the culture and increase awareness of Deaf issues. “I am anxious to continue presenting this opportunity which enables the Deaf Community across Florida to have a place to gather and connect with each other and showcase their skills,” says Terry Hunt, President, ProjectDEAF.

“It’s a Deaf Thing” is put on by ProjectDEAF. But who is ProjectDEAF? ProjectDEAF is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that has the passion and desire to help the Deaf community. Our primary mission is to support and empower the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. also seek other areas to improve and help the Deaf community. We are also involved in other activities such as Drag Queen Bingo, Deaf Beach Day, and many similar events. The goal of these events is to help promote awareness of the Deaf community that WE ARE CAPABLE OF DOING ANYTHING EXCEPT FOR HEAR.

Behind the goal of promoting awareness is to help build the courage to the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind community that they can do anything.  Believe it or not, we have a Deaf/Blind photographer named, Kelly, on our volunteer team.
