Top 10 Servant Leader Traits

Inspired from the kickoff event od #MFCDubai this 2026, where we delved into Servant Leadership through a Servants Retreat. We booked a villa and for a couple of nights we emersed into the 6- session topics of being a Servanthood and as I reflect, I gathered at least 10 traits a servant leader must have.

A good servant leader in the context of Catholic faith demonstrates Christ-like values and embodies principles that inspire and support others, placing God’s will and the dignity of every person at the center of leadership. Here are the top ten characteristics of a Good Servant Leader:​

1. Humility

   • Catholic servant leaders follow Christ’s example by acting with profound humility, willingly serving others and putting aside personal pride or advantage.​

2. Stewardship

   • They recognize responsibility for the resources and people entrusted to them, seeking the common good and wise management.​

3. Integrity

   • Their words and actions are consistently aligned with faith values and Gospel truths, fostering trust and transparency..​

4. Compassion

   • They show genuine care, empathy, and concern for others, especially those struggling or marginalized, reflecting Christ’s love..​

5. Accountability

   • They welcome evaluation and feedback, acknowledge mistakes, and remain answerable to God and their community.​

6. Empowerment

   • Rather than seeking personal power, Catholic servant leaders nurture, uplift, and develop those they lead, enabling shared growth.​

7. Justice

   • Their leadership seeks equity, fairness, and respect for the dignity of every person, guided by Catholic Social Teaching.​

8. Sacrificial Service

   • They act selflessly, prioritize others’ welfare, and are willing to make personal sacrifices for the good of the group and God’s glory.​

9. Emotional Healing

   • Good leaders take personal interest in the wellbeing of their community, supporting members through trauma or difficulty.​

10. Vision Rooted in Faith

    • They inspire with a shared purpose oriented toward God’s mission, encouraging continual growth and seeking God’s will above all..​

These traits exemplify servant leadership as modeled by Jesus—serving others first, fostering a loving and empowering environment, and guiding with moral strength and deep faith. I pray that all of us, especially the servants of @mfcdubai will also embody these traits and be seen and felt by our members and the people around us. May we represent Christ through our actions.
