Key Features

  • The Gentle Giants: The activity centers on the Butanding (Whale Shark), the world’s largest fish. Several sharks typically visit the shallow waters near the shore daily.

  • Controlled Interaction: The experience is highly regulated. Visitors board small paddle boats and are given 30 minutes to observe or swim with the sharks.

Briefing & Rules

  • All visitors must undergo a mandatory orientation. Strict rules include:

    • No Touching: Stay at least 4 meters away from the sharks.

    • No Sunscreen: Chemical sunscreens are prohibited to protect the water and the sharks’ skin.

    • No Flash Photography: This can startle or harm the animals.

 

Practical Information

  • Operating Hours: Daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Registration usually closes around 11:00 AM.

  • Best Time to Visit: Arriving very early (around 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM) is highly recommended to avoid long wait times, which can last several hours during peak season.

  • Location: Barangay Tan-awan, Oslob, Cebu (Southeastern coast of the island).
